A Public Consultation has been launched by the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights on the legislation of pet grooming, pet sitting, pet boarding and dog breeding.
The document proposes key legislative changes to regulate the services related to the care of animals, and the breeding of companion animals more specifically in those four areas.
In September the owners of two dogs set up a crowdfunding campaign for legal action against the same pet sitter in Gozo, after they claimed that one of the pets went missing in July and has never been found, while the other went missing in August, but was sadly found dead two days later. Both were under the care of the pet sitter.
The consultation document was launched by Minister for Animal Rights Anton Refalo, Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Welfare Alicia Bugeja Said, and Permanent Secretary within the Ministry Sharlo Camilleri.
The consultation document was opened today and runs until the 6th of November.
Individuals and organisations are invited to send written feedback to ahwdconsultations.mafa@gov.mt
