The nominations for the election of the Leader of the Nationalist Party have been received today from Alex Borg and Adrian Delia by the Electoral, Records and Data Commission of the PN.

The nomination period was opened for five days in accordance with Article 90d of the Statute of the PN – between Thursday, the 14th of August at 12pm and today, Tuesday, the 19th, at noon.

Within the next 24 hours, the Electoral Commission will verify that the nomination forms are in order and inform the candidates accordingly.

The PN said that during this period, nominations could only be submitted by the two prospective candidates who had declared their interest in contesting the post of Leader and who had been positively verified by the Candidates’ Commission.

The nomination for the election of Leader of the Nationalist Party is submitted on a prescribed form signed by the proposed candidate, and seconded by at least:

(i) three members of the Parliamentary Group,

(ii) five members of the PN Local Councillors’ College,

(iii) ten members of the Executive Committee,

(iv) fifty members of the General Council, and

(v) fifty members of the Party.

Now that the nominations have closed and once the Electoral Commission has verified the two nominations received, the Commission will proceed to organise the election for Leader of the PN.

Voting will take place on Saturday, the 6th of September, during a specially convened General Convention of members.

The Electoral Commission will also organise early voting sessions on Wednesday, the 27th and Saturday, the 30th of August for those members who, for any reason, will not be able to cast their vote on the actual election day.

The details (dates, times, and voting locations) are as follows:

· Wednesday, 27th August, from 4pm to 9pm Malta and from 4pm to 8pm Gozo: Dar Centrali PN Gozo: PN Sub-Hdqs, Sannat

· Saturday, 30th August, from 9am to 7pm Malta and from 9am to 5pm Gozo: Dar Centrali PN Gozo: PN Sub-Hdqs, Sannat

· Saturday, 6th September, from 9am to 7pm Malta and from 9am to 5pm Gozo: Dar Centrali PN and PN Clubs in Safi, Tarxien, and Mgarr Gozo: PN Sub-Hdqs, Sannat.

The Electoral Commission also reminded members that those eligible to vote in this election will be PN members whose membership is duly renewed and valid, as established by the Statute and Regulations, up to ten days before election day – that is, by noon on the 27th of August.
