Turtle Johanna’s third nest at Ramla l-Hamra has produced a total of 65 turtles which safely hatched and made it to the sea. 35 hatchlings made it to the sea on the first night, the rest followed over the next two nights.

Earlier today Johanna’s last night at Ramla Bay, Gozo, was inspected in the presence of Nature Trust – FEE Malta , Nature Trust – FEE Malta – Gozo Section officials and ERA – Environment & Resources Authority officials.

It was found that the nest contained a total of 71 eggs.

Wildlife Rescue Team Malta said that out of these, 1 was not fertilised, 5 were fertilised but stopped developing, and the remaining 65 hatched successfully. 2 hatchlings were taken by our vet for further observation.

From the total nest there was a 91.5% hatch rate. Out of the fertilised eggs, 93% hatched successfully.

The last nest to hatch at Ramla Bay Gozo, should be from Turtle Angela, who laid her nest on the 28th of July.
