August’s annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index went up to 2.7% from 2.4% in July.

National Statistics Office today revealed that the largest contribution to the overall annual inflation was measured in the food index (+0.95 percentage points), mainly due to the higher prices of take-aways.

The highest annual inflation rates in August were registered in food (4.4%) and beverages and tobacco (3.5%).

The lowest annual inflation rates were registered in water, electricity, gas and fuels (0.0%) and housing (1.0%).

No downward contributions to the overall annual inflation were registered in the month of August, the NSO said.

The 12-month moving average rate for August stood at 1.9%.
