Moviment Graffitti has stated that, “despite all the empty promises we’ve heard in recent days, what guarantee can Clint Camilleri really give Gozitans that no towers will be built? Right now, we’re already facing a proposed tower in Xlendi by Joseph Portelli and his partners – a project already recommended for approval by the Planning Authority.”
In this context, the activist group stressed that “it’s deeply disappointing that the new Opposition leader, Alex Borg has failed to take a clear stand against towers in Gozo. His silence signals that under his party, the door will remain wide open to projects that threaten Gozo’s landscape, heritage, and identity.”
Graffitti argued that “Labour’s position is no better – weak and hypocritical. The PL pretends to say towers don’t belong in Gozo, but in the same breath it pushes forward Government Bills 143 and 144, rolling out the red carpet for developers to keep cashing in with monstrous projects. These bills strip away the legal strength of Local Plans, erase environmental and planning safeguards, and open loopholes that developers will exploit at the expense of our communities.”
Graffitti stressed that “Gozo’s unique character is a national treasure. It needs full protection through strong, clear policy – not half-measures, empty promises, and political loopholes. Anything less is a betrayal of our island and its people.”
Graffitti called on everyone “who cares about the future of our islands to join us in protest” on Friday, the 4th of October at 10am, outside the Courts of Justice, Valletta: Gustizzja ghal Artna: Irtirawhom Issa! – National Protest.
“Together, we’ll send a clear message: no more destruction of our towns and villages – not in Gozo, not in Malta.”
