In August, the seasonally adjusted monthly unemployment rate was 2.9%, the National Statistics Office said today. This was at par with the previous month and down 0.2 percentage points on last year.

The number of unemployed persons was 9,788, an increase of 0.8% on the previous month and down 5.6% on the same month in 2024.

The NSO noted that the 25 to 74 age group was once again the major contributor to the overall level of unemployment at 7,379 – 75.4%. The figure for unemployed youths amounted to 2,408 – 24.6%.

The unemployment rate for males stood at 3.1%, increasing by 0.1 percentage points to 9.2%, while the rate for females stood at 2.4%, increasing by 0.1 percentage points when compared to last month.

The unemployment rate for persons aged 15 to 24 years (youth unemployment rate) was 9.2%, down by 0.3 percentage points, while the rate for those aged between 25 and 74 years stood at 2.4%, increasing by 0.1 percentage points when compared to the previous month of July.
