Santa Lucija celebrates Our Lady of Fatima with torchlight procession

A Celebration of LightNext Sunday evening, Santa Lucija will be the venue for an evening of faith, tradition and community, with a solemn torchlight procession of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima departing from the village square and continuing around the streets.

The evening gets underway at 6pm with the singing of Ave Maria echoing through the surroundings.

A Eucharistic Blessing will take place on the church parvis following the procession.

Ghar Ilma Hill will also be lit up with thousands of lanterns – all set against the beautiful backdrop of the Gozitan countryside surrounding the heart of the quaint village of Santa Lucija in Gozo.

As the sun goes down the Fjakkolata begins just as it has for well over the 30 years, in celebration of the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, which falls on the 13th of October.

The entertainment later in the evening will feature Mario Caruana as well as the Ogygia Folk Group.

This very popular picturesque evening attracts visitors from all over the island to enjoy the spectacular scene from St. Lucija Square, where there will also be the chance to savour local food, together with the unique hospitality of this village.

The traditional Fjakkolata – Celebration of Light is taking place on Sunday, the 12th of October, the torches will start being lit from 7.00pm onwards, on Ghar Ilma Hill.
