National Statistics Office data released today shows that during the third quarter of this year, a total of 12,064 trips were carried out between Malta and Gozo, carrying a total of 2,089,047 passengers.

During the same period the total number of trips, vehicles and passengers increased by 0.8, 2.0 and 5.6%, when compared to the corresponding quarter in 2024, the NSO said.

The NSO noted that August was the busiest month recording a total of 4,099 trips or 34.0% of total trips for the quarter.

A total of 1,711,511 passengers travelled between Mgarr and Cirkewwa during the third quarter, this was an increase of 3.3% when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2024.

The highest number of passengers was recorded in August – 603,080 or 35.2% of the total for the quarter. When compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year, the number of vehicles increased by 2.0%, totalling 600,695.

There were 9,238 trips in the third quarter, an increase of 0.1% over the same period in 2024. August registered the highest number of trips – 3,118 or 33.8% of total trips for the quarter.

During January-September, vehicle traffic originating from Mgarr terminal was highest on Sundays and Mondays, passenger traffic was busiest on Sundays and Saturdays.

The NSO said that from the Cirkewwa terminal, vehicle traffic was busiest on Fridays and Saturdays, while passenger traffic was busiest on Saturdays and Fridays.

During the third quarter of 2025, a total of 2,826 trips were carried out between Mgarr and Valletta carrying a total of 377,536 passengers. When compared to same quarter in 2024, the number of trips increased by 3.0% and the number passengers increased by 17.9%, the NSO said.

It noted that August registered the highest number of trips – 981 or 34.7% of total trips for the quarter and the highest number of passengers – 137,394 or 36.4% for the quarter.
