A new heraldic publication providing the first-ever comprehensive record of coats of arms issued under Malta’s heraldic authority since its establishment, has been launched by Heritage Malta, together with the Office of the Chief Herald of Arms of Malta.

The richly illustrated publication is the first volume in a series. Titled ‘The Register of Arms, Volume 1 (2019-2024)’, this hardbound volume was compiled by Dr Charles A. Gauci, Chief Herald of Arms of Malta, and Chev. Raymond M. Cassar, Registrar of the Office.

Within its pages, readers will find the illustrated personal coats of arms, either granted or registered, of 133 armigers together with the heraldic descriptions – known as blazons – of 70 others. These are complete with standards and badges, where relevant.

There are also a number of arms belonging to entities, along with the listing of pedigrees. Among the arms are also some of prominent national figures such as President Emeritus George Vella and Archbishop Charles Scicluna.

This exclusive publication by Heritage Malta’s publishing house also includes descriptions and comprehensive lists of mottos, cris de guerre and hereditary honours.

Heritage Malta explained that beyond its artistic and historical value, the Register reflects the dynamic role of the Office of the Chief Herald of Arms of Malta, which has the legal authority to grant and register arms both for Maltese citizens and for petitioners from around the globe.

It said that heraldry is not limited to nobility but open to people from all walks of life, with arms granted or registered to applicants from diverse countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and beyond.
