St Margaret Band concert to celebrate Johann Strauss’s bicentenary

The music world is celebrating the bicentenary of Viennese composer Johann Strauss II, affectionately known as “The Waltz King.”
To mark this anniversary, the St Margaret Band of Sannat proudly presents – Strauss 200 – a festive concert honouring the timeless elegance, charm, and vitality of Strauss’s most beloved works, on Saturday, the 29th of November, at The Grand Ballroom, Grand Hotel, Mgarr, Gozo.
Under the baton of Mro George Apap, the band will perform masterful wind band arrangements of Strauss’s iconic compositions, including “The Blue Danube, Tales from the Vienna Woods,Wiener Blut,” and the “Emperor Waltz.”
Each piece, renowned for its historical significance and musical brilliance, captures the grandeur and joy that Strauss infused into the Viennese waltz, polka and operetta traditions.
More than a performance, this concert stands as a cultural celebration, a tribute to Strauss’s enduring legacy and his gift for uplifting hearts through melody and rhythm.
With vivid orchestration, sweeping dance forms, and infectious energy, the St Margaret Band invites audiences to step into the splendour of 19th-century Vienna through the vibrant sound of a modern wind ensemble.
This event is supported by the Social Causes Fund, Sannat Local Council, and Pegasus Laboratory Services.
