As part of the extensive Marsalforn Road reconstruction project, the Gorg Pisani bypass, with a length of half a kilometre, was opened for the first time this week.

Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri announced that the new road began to welcome traffic towards Marsalforn without the need to pass through the centre of Victoria.

He explained that the work on “the work on the Gorg Pisani bypass included the formation of the road for the first time as scheduled, the construction of the same road from the ground up including all new electricity, water and sewage services and a completely new storm water culvert.”

In addition, Camilleri said that “a bridge was also built over the famous Karawendi valley while a quarry discovered during the works was preserved and converted into a reservoir for collecting rainwater.”

He added that a total upgrade was carried out at the junction where the Capuchin Church is located and new pavements and green areas were also completed to create a sense of a square in front of the same church.

Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri concluded by saying that through the partial opening of the Gorg Pisani bypass, traffic towards Marsalforn will currently be absorbed by it, while once the Marsalforn Road opens, this bypass will begin to take all traffic passing through the centre.
