Data from the National Statistics Office today has revealed that Gozo registered an increase of 56.1% in the number of approved building permits for new dwellings – 512 – in the third quarter compared to the same period last year.

This figure was also an increase on the second quarter when the number was 415.

Ghajnsielem had the highest number of approved new dwellings on Gozo, with 143.

Other Gozo localities were: Zebbug (which includes Marsalforn) 79, Victoria 57, Xaghra 56, Nadur 40, Qala 33, Fontana 32, Sannat 29, Munxar (which includes Xlendi) 18, Xewkija 13, Kercem 5, Gharb 4, San Lawrenz 2 and Ghasri 1.

On a national basis, during the third quarter, 593 building permits for a total of 3,668 new dwellings were approved.

When compared to the corresponding quarter of 2024, the number of building permits and approved new dwellings increased by 60.3% and 110.3%, respectively

When compared to Q3 last year, the number of new dwellings approved in Malta increased by 122.9%.

The NSO noted that apartments made up 73.5% of the total number of approved new dwellings.
