Pharmacy shelvesThe Left think tank organisation Zminijietna is calling on the Finance Minister to withdraw Legal Notice 254 of 2025, which proposes increased fees for the registration of pharmaceutical services and medicines.

The organisation warned that the measure is “likely to increase medicine prices, placing additional burdens on households.”

It said that the Legal Notice introduces new annual fees for pharmacies, wholesalers, importers, manufacturers, brokers, authorised representatives, and distributors. These changes are scheduled to come into effect on the 1st of January 2026.

Zminijietna concluded by urging the Minister to instead, introduce a tax on cruise-liner passengers, arguing that “such a measure would both address overtourism and provide an alternative source of government revenue without impacting the cost of essential medicines.”
