Family businesses from across Malta and Gozo came together for the Family Business Forum Gozo, hosted by the Family Business Office (FBO).

The event provided a platform for business owners, sector experts, financial advisors, and regulators to discuss the challenges, opportunities, and practical strategies that can secure the future of family-led enterprises.

The Forum featured two engaging panels moderated by award-winning broadcaster Keith Demicoli, whose experience spans the BBC, France 24, and Euronews.

Panel 1: Dr Joseph Gerada (Regulator, FBO), Daniel Borg (CEO, Gozo Business Chamber), Alexander Vella (Head of Outreach in Business Development, Malta Enterprise), and John Magro (Managing Director, Magro Brothers Group) shared insights on governance, succession planning, and long-term strategy.

Panel 2: Dr Joseph Gerada, Michael Galea (Managing Director, GGS Ltd. & President, Gozo Business Chamber), Silvan Mifsud (Director, EMCS Advisory & Malta Chamber), and Abraham Said (Managing Director, Abraham Supplies Co.) discussed challenges in leadership transitions, internal dynamics, and sustaining family business growth.

The Forum was organised in collaboration with Gozo Business Chamber (GBC), Malta Enterprise, The Malta Chamber, and Invest Gozo, reinforcing the importance of coordinated support for family businesses.

A key message that emerged from the event was the importance for family-run companies to register with the Family Business Office. Registration gives family businesses access to:

Support for ownership transitions, restructuring, and long-term planning

Networking, mentoring, and training opportunities

Participants praised the Forum for its actionable insights and emphasis on collaboration between institutions and the business community. Attendees came from both Malta and Gozo, with many welcoming the event’s location in Gozo, making it more accessible for Gozitan businesses.
