In a message marking Christmas Day, Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg said that this Christmas he wished to convey a clear message – that he will continue to build a leadership founded on one core value: respect. “Respect for everyone, respect in the language we use, in the debate we hold and in the decisions we take.”

He called for the building of a culture where, even when we disagree, we continue to work together. “Because a small country like ours cannot afford division; it needs unity and a sense of direction. I believe that politics should be about solutions: services that work and a good quality of life that people can genuinely feel. But more than that, I want a politics that rebuilds trust – and trust begins when everyone feels they have a place around the same table.”

The PN Leader said that in these first months as Leader of the Opposition and of the Nationalist Party, he has learned one thing very clearly: when you listen to people with humility, you realise how much more unites us than divides us.

Borg said, “the Maltese and Gozitan people share aspirations and hopes that unite them far more than they separate them – aspirations for unity, for the common good, for leaving behind a country better than the one we found, and for one nation under the white and red. And at Christmas, this desire for unity is even stronger.”

He said that, for him, Christmas is not just a celebration but also a moment of reflection on where we want to go as a country – on the value of the person, the dignity of the family, and the responsibility we have not to leave anyone behind. And as he promised in his acceptance speech, he continues to believe that we should not speak of “who won” or “who lost, not of blue or red, but of one Malta – one home for all of us.”

While recalling those who are often forgotten, who are Maltese and Gozitans too, Alex Borg said that “Christmas reminds us that true light is not found only in decorations on the streets, but in small gestures of help, even towards those who may be alone.” He invited everyone to carry this light into their homes, their communities and throughout our beautiful country.

The Leader of the Nationalist Party extended his wishes for a happy Christmas filled with peace and hope to all Maltese and Gozitan people.
