On the Solemnity of the Shipwreck of St. Paul, the village of Munxar gave a warm welcome to twelve young women who will begin two years of formation within the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St Jeanne Antide. They come from India, Pakistan and Vietnam.

The Diocese of Gozo said that at the end of the celebration, the Bishop of Gozo Anton Teuma, during a special Blessing over the new community, made this prayer to God, “on this feast day, let us remember how when the Apostle found himself on unknown shores, he did not find fear but welcome. May the vocation of these young women be strengthened, their joy be complete and their lives be a testimony to your merciful love. Teach them the humility of service and the courage of the total gift of their lives.”

The Diocese of Gozo stated, “the welcome that the people gave these girls reflects the great heart that the Maltese people showed to St. Paul when he arrived on our shores!”

In his homily earlier, the Bishop spoke of the many shipwrecks that we have in our lives. Just as St. Paul encouraged those who were with him on the ship in the middle of a stormy sea, the Bishop said that even today the Word of God accompanies us amidst the trials of life, and also leads us to communion around the Eucharist.
