The Planning Authority has today opened applications for a new tranche of the Irrestawra Darek u l-Villagg initiative, specifically targeting Grade 1 and Grade 2 scheduled buildings located outside Urban Conservation Areas (UCAs) across Malta and Gozo.
Backed by a dedicated €2 million allocation, the scheme supports the restoration and maintenance of Malta’s architectural heritage.
The Authority said that eligible applicants may receive up to €100,000 for Grade 1 buildings and up to €50,000 for Grade 2 buildings. In cases of multiple ownership, each owner may benefit from a maximum of €15,000, or a consolidated application may qualify for the full capped amount.
The scheme covers a wide range of conservation works, including façade restoration, specialist stone cleaning, consolidation works, repairs or replacement of traditional timber or wrought-iron elements, and restoration of balconies and other traditional architectural features.
The Authority said that works must adhere to established conservation standards and, where required, be carried out under the appropriate planning permit and approved method statements.
This initiative forms part of the Planning Authority’s long-term commitment to safeguard historic buildings and reinvigorate traditional craftsmanship, reinforcing the cultural value of Malta’s architectural fabric, it said.
