The Aurora opera house is once again supporting the global initiative of Earth Hour, which is taking place next Saturday, the 29th of March.
Earth Hour 2013 broke all records to become the largest movement for the planet in human history, spanning over 7,000 cities, 154 countries with a digital reach of 345 million.
Earth Hour began in 2007, in just Sydney, but it has since grown into a global movement. Some of the world’s most famous wonders, including China’s Forbidden City, the Eiffel Tower, Table Mountain, the Great Pyramids of Egypt, Buckingham Palace, Rio de Janeiro’s statue of Christ the King; Niagara Falls in Canada and Victoria Falls in Zambia, the Empire State Building in New York and the Sydney Opera House, are switching their lights off for an hour.
The lights-out event itself aims to empower people to make a difference on and beyond one hour to reach out to the hundreds of millions of people within the community and the global Earth Hour communities.
This is an opportunity for everyone to take action for the environment, inspire others with one’s actions, spark off conversation, and make real, lasting impact beyond the hour. But for that particular hour, between 8.30pm and 9.30pm (of every respective time-zone), on Saturday 29th March 2014, cities switch off the illuminations of their landmarks.
The Aurora Theatre will switch off its external illumination between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, joining the world’s major landmarks for an hour for the earth… celebrating Earth Hour 2014.
The Aurora said that it “takes pride in knowing that in less than a year, thanks to its ambitious project of photovoltaic energy generating panels, it saved almost 50,000kgs of CO2 emissions.”

I hope the new lighthouse on Gozo aka Lidl Supermarket will also turn off its lights which blaze unnecessarily throughout the night.
