Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by the Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, visited the Leone Philharmonic Society, the Aurora Theatre, the La Stella Philharmonic Society and the Astra Theatre in Victoria.

Speaking during the visits, the Prime Minister reiterated the importance of cultural organisations in the social and artistic life of the island of Gozo.

The PM said that the Leone Philharmonic Society and the Aurora Theatre, ”are among the most important cultural spaces in Gozo and closely linked to the island’s musical and operatic tradition.”

The visit ended with a brief meeting with members of the society, where the cultural contribution of the society and the importance of supporting voluntary cultural organisations in Gozo were discussed.

Prime Minister Abela also visited the Astra Theatre and the La Stella Philharmonic Society. During the visit, the Prime Minister toured the society’s building and the historic theatre, which is also one of the most important cultural spaces in Gozo.

The PM also saw the theatre’s stage and the production setup for the musical ‘Singin’ in the Rain.’ which will be staged at the Teatru Astra between 14 and 22 March 2026.

He also met with the musical’s director, actors and crew members, who are working to stage high-level cultural productions in Gozo. The visit ended with a short meeting with the club members, where the theatre’s cultural activities and the productions being held were discussed.

Prime Minister Abela emphasised that ”organisations such as the Philharmonic Societies play a crucial role in safeguarding Gozo’s cultural heritage while continuing to foster creativity and community participation.”

He stated that ”the Government remains committed to supporting the strengthening of culture and investing in spaces that allow arts and culture to continue to flourish in both Malta and Gozo.”
