Speaking during a political activity from the Qrib Taghkom series held today in Victoria, Gozo, Leader of the Nationalist Party Alex Borg said he wants to ”deliver his vision for a better Gozo – where Gozitans benefit from a new hospital, efficient connectivity through a new fleet of ferries and a modern port, economic niches that provide new opportunities for quality employment, ever more innovative education at the Gozo branch of the University of Malta, at MCAST and Institute of Tourism Studies, where entrepreneurs do not find themselves trapped in bureaucratic red tape, and above all where Gozitans find well-paid work on their own island – whether in the Civil Service or in the private sector.”

During an activity in Victoria, Gozo, he says that a Nationalist Government would deliver his vision for a ”better Gozo for Gozitans, after Labour promised much in Gozo and delivered little.”

”I am determined to respond to every attack and intimidation with more work for the country and greater contact with the people. Together, from the island of Gozo, we are beginning the wind of change that this people deserve,” he said

Alex Borg said that in recent weeks ”hundreds of Gozitans ended up being called to be served in the offices of Gozo Ministers, in panic on the eve of an election, after these same Ministers ignored them for years and now want to buy their vote by giving them employment.”

He appealed to Robert Abela to keep visiting Gozo – ”not for the cameras, but to deliver the full list of promises on Gozo which since 2022 have remained only on Labour’s electoral manifesto.”

Among these, the PN Leader mentioned the centre of excellence for research in Gozo, work on the Marsalforn breakwater, the restoration of the Qolla l-Bajda Battery, the Regional Natural Park, making Gozo the first part of the country to become climate-neutral, completion of the Museum for Gozo, a facility for Carnival enthusiasts, the multi-level car park in Marsalforn and above all the construction of a new general hospital.

The PN Leader said that a Nationalist Government will not only reassure workers, small enterprises and the self-employed about employment, ”but will guarantee that it will be there for them every day, and not only on the eve of an election.”

The PN Leader recalled how Nationalist Governments over 25 years brought great benefit to Gozo. However, there were moments when the Party made mistakes and therefore Alex Borg apologised to those whom the PN may have hurt or forgotten in the past, but appealed that now the time has come to once again give the country a Nationalist Government.

Alex Borg spoke about the future of our country. He said that with the PN forming part of the largest party in Europe, opportunities for Maltese and Gozitans are significant.

He stated that during a meeting in Brussels with one of the largest companies in the world, Google, he discussed how ”a Nationalist Government could bring them to invest in Gozo.” He said that he goes to Brussels to ”work for our country, because that was the decision he took when he set aside his career to serve in politics.”

“Unlike Robert Abela, I entered politics to give and not to take,” Alex Borg concluded, and while thanking the many who are telling him that for the first time they will vote for the Partit Nazzjonalista, he said that he is humbly asking the Maltese people for the chance to change the country into one where everyone can live better. “With us, everyone will work.”

The Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista also recalled how the City of Victoria will be carrying the title of European Capital of Culture in 2031, another certificate of the achievement made by the PN for our country when we became a European nation, and thanked Mayor Brian Azzopardi, who also addressed the activity, for the work he continues to carry out for this city.

Alex Borg also thanked Edmond Cuschieri, a lawyer who had never voted for the Nationalist Party and who today has been approved as a PN candidate and who also delivered his speech in Victoria. The PN Leader said that like Edmond there are many who are once again seeing hope in Maltese politics. “I welcome you with open arms so that together we can change this country. Because I am not here for blue or red. I am here for Malta and for Gozo.”

Mayor of Victoria Gozo Brian Azzopardi, in his first public political address, expressed his disappointment at the way some are trying to make people forget, erase or rewrite the history of the successes achieved by the country under Nationalist Governments – achievements which we still live and benefit from every day. These achievements are proof that the PN in Government delivers.

He listed the major projects carried out in Gozo which remain those delivered by a Nationalist Government. Today, said the Mayor of Victoria, the Nationalist Party is ”once again offering hope of quality, excellence and the guarantee that the person is placed at the centre – where the economy serves the person, not the person the economy. Where couples and young people live a dignified life, in a country built with so much love by our forefathers.”

He said that ”this is the moment to dream again and succeed, and it is the moment when everyone should courageously take the step forward for our country.”

Edmond Cuschieri, a new candidate of the PN for the next general election, said that this will be the first time in his life that he will vote for the PN after for a long time ”finding himself politically orphaned. This came after the Labour Party, in which he had always believed, lost its soul.”

He said he could ”no longer remain behind a Party where there is a huge discrepancy between what it says and what it does. The Labour Government has ended up with one new story after another, a Government that made a mess of the hospitals, a Government that seems to be playing musical chairs with its MPs after every scandal, a Government that when a new story emerges about it, instead of going before the people and apologising, presents excuses and tries to crucify whoever exposed the mess.”

Edmond Cuschieri said ”the time for change has come, and now that he has come to know Alex Borg, he fully believes that this change can happen.” He said that when the Leader of the PN asked him to contest the general election he ”could not say no, and wanted to be part of the change our country deserves.” He thanked the Nationalist Party for inviting him to be part of this journey and to be of service to the country, and appealed for all to unite for the good of the whole nation.

After a weekend of activities by the PN in Gozo and also in Malta linked to Workers’ Day, attention now turns to 1st of May when Leader of the PN Alex Borg will address a Mass Rally to be held near the Tower of Hal Lija.
