Malta and the Holy War: Public talk and book launch at Il-HagarMalta and the Holy War is the subject of an upcoming talk and book launch at Il-Hagar Museum, in Victoria, Gozo.

Professor Carmel Cassar will delve into Malta’s role in the dramatic religious and political conflicts of the early modern Mediterranean.

Drawing on rich archival sources from Malta and across Europe, Professor Cassar will explore how the Spanish- Ottoman struggle shaped Maltese society and the rule of the Order of St John, while situating the island within the wider currents of Mediterranean geopolitics. The threat posed by the conflict culminated in 1565 and re-emerged during the Ottoman incursion of 1614.

Professor Cassar has just published his research on this topic and copies will be available during the talk. This event is being held in collaboration with Kite Group.

The talk and book launch will take place this coming Saturday, the 9th of May, starting at 11am.

Admission to Il-Hagar Museum, which is located in St George’s Square, is free of charge, but seat reservations are encouraged by sending an email to events@heartofgozo.org.mt
