Thursday, (World Kidney Day) saw the launch of the Betfair Lifecycle Challenge 2010. The charity, which is in its twelfth year, aims to raise money for the renal patients of Malta. This year it is hoping to raise enough to help outpatients at the renal unit by providing permanent transport to and from the hospital as well as giving money to the Kidney Organisation to help fund cures.

This year’s route will see riders travelling over 2,000 km from Venice to Old Trafford taking on some of the toughest bike routes in Europe. The two week adventure for extreme cyclists will end at the home of Manchester United, Old Trafford. This association has been made possible due to the official sponsor of Lifecycle, Betfair, who are the betting partner of both Manchester United and Barcelona.

It is hoped that several of the first team squad and staff of Manchester United will take part in the last few km of the race to see the riders cross the finish line. The route will also incorporate three challenges within the main challenge, one of which is dedicated to Cliff Micallef who was tragically killed last year training for LifeCycle.

During the launch, the route was announced as well as several events aimed at raising money for the charity.
