Today is the International Day of Families, it can be celebrated by giving the gift of life. The National Blood Transfusion Service said that blood donation takes just a short time, but the effects for who needs blood can last forever – for someone’s loved ones…because every family deserves more time together.
Gozitans are urged to please keep attending blood donation sessions to help the patients in need get the necessary blood in a timely manner and to ensure a stable blood supply.
The National Blood Transfusion Service advised that the most common blood group in the Maltese population is A positive. ”This means that this is the blood group most likely to be required by patients.” However it reminded donors that ”A negative units can also be given to A positive recipients.”
The Service added that anybody can need blood at any time. ”This is why we urge you to donate regularly if you can. The peace of mind for a patient whose world is falling apart and who needs blood has no price.”
The NBTS also advised that is has updated the donor eligibility guidelines removing restrictions on a number of medications. For more information on donor eligibility please call on 22066201 or 79307307 or on free phone 80074313.
The next session in Gozo will be Sunday, the 17th of May, from 8am until 1pm, at the Xewkija Community Clinic.
“Your cooperation and generosity are greatly appreciated as always,” the Service said.
The centre is located at the Xewkija Community Clinic, in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.
