Outbound tourists in January were estimated at 17,397, a decrease of 763 trips when compared to January last year. The vast majority of outbound Maltese tourists visited EU member states.

During January, outbound trips by residents to EU destinations were estimated at 14,678, while a further 2,719 trips headed towards Non-EU destinations. The UK and Italy emerged as the most popular destinations among Maltese tourists.

Male outbound tourists exceed females and made up 62 per cent of total. The largest proportion of outbound travellers fell in the 25-44 age bracket followed by those in the 45-64 category. Together these two groups made up 74 per cent of outbound Maltese tourists

Estimates show the total number of Maltese visitors who travelled from Malta and Gozo during the reference month, which showed a slight decrease with respect to the previous year. Visitors comprise tourists and same-day visitors.
