Three men have been arrested in Gozo following investigations in connection with alleged illegal cultivation of cannabis plants, in an amount which is more than permitted by law, the Police said.

The three persons arrested are a 43-year old German national, a 37-year old Ghanaian national and a 36-year old Sudanese national.

They were arrested on Thursday morning, when following a search of an apartment in Valley Road, limits of Marsalforn, Zebbug, eleven cannabis plants were found being grown illegally.

They were found both inside and on the roof of the same block of apartments. Apart from the plants, the Police seized various cannabis sachets which were ready in circumstances indicating they were intended for trafficking.

Earlier this morning, the German was arraigned in the Gozo Court before Magistrate Jean Paul Grech in German, pleading not guilty to the charges. He was released on bail on various conditions.

Investigations into the two other persons are ongoing.
