Data from the National Statistics Office shows that the annual rate of inflation in May as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices went down to 2.1% from 2.5% in April.

The NSO noted that the highest annual inflation rates in May were recorded in recreation, sport and culture (3.9%) and restaurant and accommodation services (3.6%).

The lowest annual inflation rates were registered in and clothing and footwear (-4.3%) and information and communication (-2.5%).

The largest upward contribution to the overall annual inflation was measured in the restaurants and accommodation services (+0.55 percentage points) largely due to the higher prices of restaurant services.

The NSO said that the largest downward contribution was recorded in the clothing and footwear index (-0.17 percentage points) mainly reflecting lower prices of garments.

The 12-month moving average rate for May stood at 2.4%.
