?The Ministry for Gozo has announced that Ronald Sultana has been appointed as the new CEO of Gozo Channel Operations Ltd, while Avv. Marlene Cini has been appointed as the company’s first female Chairperson.

The Ministry said that the roles of chairperson and CEO have been separated, with the CEO position becoming a full-time role, focused on the day-to-day management of the company and its long-term transformation.

Connectivity will be a key priority during this legislature, with major investments in the Gozo Channel, the Port of Mgarr and the Xewkija Air Field, the Ministry said.

”The appointment of CEO Ronald Sultana marks an important transition for one of Gozo’s most strategic entities. This appointment comes at a time when the company is facing the challenge of modernising its fleet and improving its digital and customer service systems,” the Ministry said.

It added that ”Ronald Sultana’s knowledge of the tourism sector in Gozo, coupled with his ability to translate strategy into concrete results, places him in a strong position to lead the company through this transformation. Ronald Sultana had been serving as Director responsible for Tourism and Economic Development within the Ministry for Gozo since 2019. During this period, Gozo has recorded significant growth in tourism and investment.”

The Ministry said that Chairperson Dr Marlene Cini is a lawyer with extensive experience in public administration, legal affairs, corporate governance and strategic leadership. Lawyer Cini has held several senior governance positions, including Secretary to the Board of Gozo Channel (Operations) Ltd, Secretary to the Board of the Gozo Regional Development Authority, Deputy Head of the Maltese Delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. She holds a Doctorate in Law from the University of Malta and a Professional Certificate in Taxation.

The Gozo Ministry stated that Gozo Channel is entering a crucial phase, requiring substantial investment to modernise and increase its fleet in response to growing demand, improve sustainability and enhance operational efficiency. At the same time, work will be undertaken to upgrade digital platforms, including ticketing systems and marketing channels, in order to offer a more efficient and customer-focused service.”

The Ministry thanked the former Chairman of Gozo Channel Joe Cordina for his work and for his service.
