The Gozo Business Chamber recently participated in a meeting with European Commissioner Michael McGrath, together with representatives of Malta’s leading business organisations.

The discussion focused on current European Commission initiatives aimed at simplifying the business environment, supporting digitalisation and reducing administrative burdens for companies across the European Union.

The Chamber said that it highlighted its ongoing work to promote the diversification of Gozo’s economy and stressed that new European legislative frameworks must consider the particular realities faced by businesses operating on islands, in line with the European Islands Strategy.

Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that initiatives supporting company formation, entrepreneurship and start-ups are also accessible to regions such as Gozo, where businesses face additional structural challenges and where the start-up ecosystem is still developing.

The Gozo Business Chamber said it ”remains committed to ensuring that the specific needs of island businesses are reflected in European policymaking.”
