The need for blood is constant and the Blood Donation Service urged Gozitans to please keep attending blood donation sessions.
This is in order to help the patients in need get the necessary blood in a timely manner and to ensure a stable blood supply. The Service said that males can donate every 3 months and for females it is every 4 months.
The Service advised that the most common blood group in the Maltese population is A positive. ”This means that this is the blood group most likely to be required by patients.” However it reminded donors that ”A negative units can also be given to A positive recipients.”
The NBTS also advised that is has updated the donor eligibility guidelines removing restrictions on a number of medications. For more information on donor eligibility please call on 22066201 or 79307307 or on free phone 80074313.
The next session in Gozo will be Tuesday, the 7th of July, from 1pm until 5pm, at the Xewkija Community Clinic.
“Your cooperation and generosity are greatly appreciated as always,” the Service said.
The centre is located at the Xewkija Community Clinic, in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.
Important notes from the National Blood Transfusion Service
