This year’s Police Day was marked by Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield, by paying tribute to the dedication, professionalism and courage of the Malta Police Force, while reaffirming the Government’s commitment to investing in modern policing, officer wellbeing and the resources needed to address today’s evolving security challenges.

The Minister described the occasion as an opportunity for the nation to recognise the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting others and serving the community.

The Minister thanked His Eminence Cardinal Mario Grech for celebrating Holy Mass as part of the commemorations, noting that his reflection highlighted the importance of compassion, integrity and humanity in policing.

The Minister said that the Malta Police Force remains at the heart of the country’s communities, providing reassurance and support to the public while responding to emergencies, maintaining public order, investigating crime and assisting victims.

He noted that policing today is more demanding than ever, with cybercrime, financial crime, online abuse, organised criminal networks and the misuse of artificial intelligence presenting increasingly complex challenges.

He stressed that criminals continue to adapt, making it essential for law enforcement to remain equipped to respond effectively.

Minister Bedingfield also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ”providing the Malta Police Force with modern infrastructure, advanced operational capabilities and specialised training to strengthen its ability to meet present and future security challenges.”

He also highlighted the importance of supporting police officers’ well-being, emphasising that while investment in technology and resources remains essential, the Force’s greatest strength lies in the professionalism, integrity and dedication of its members.

The Minister said that Police Day also serves as a reminder that security, public order and the rule of law should never be taken for granted, adding that strong public order contributes directly to a better quality of life for all.

He also acknowledged Malta’s international partners’ contributions, noting that cooperation on cross-border security and law enforcement is increasingly important for addressing threats that extend beyond national borders.

Concluding his address, Minister Bedingfield thanked every member of the Malta Police Force for their commitment to public service and for the vital role they play in keeping Malta safe. He encouraged officers to continue serving the country with honour, professionalism and pride.

In Gozo, the public will have the opportunity to show their appreciation towards the work of the Police in Gozo tomorrow, during an event in Ghajnsielem

This special day is commemorated on the 12th of July, and this year marks the 212th anniversary.

There will be a ceremony in Ghajnsielem at the Parish Square, on Monday, the 13th of July.

Prior to the evening events, there will be a Mass celebrated at the Santa Marija cemetery chapel, followed by the blessing of Police graves and laying of flowers.

The commemoration events then get underway at 7.30pm.

There will be a Police Band Concert, and the evening will conclude with displays by the Precision Drill Team, the Police Dogs Section, Mounted Police and the Community Police will also be in attendence.
