A 63-year old man from Xaghra was seriously injured in a traffic accident in Gozo on Saturday.

Police said that the accident happened at around 2.15pm in Vjal it-8 ta’ Settembru, Xaghra.

The preliminary investigations indicate that a collision took place between a Toyota Yaris, driven by a 24-year old man from Rabat and a Yamaha Dragstar XVS650 motorcycle, ridden by the 63-year old man.

A medical team provided first assistance at the scene before the motorcyclist was taken to the Gozo General Hospital, where he was later certified to have sustained serious injuries. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Magistrate Jean Paul Grech has launched a magisterial inquiry. Police investigations are ongoing.
