Have you ever wondered how sheep’s wool becomes yarn? If so, why not visit the Citadel in Victoria, Gozo and discover ‘Spinning Yarn.’

Heritage Malta is inviting the public to a demonstration of spinning on Saturday, the 19th of September, from 11am till 1pm, at the Gran Castello Historic House within the walls of the Citadel.

Held in celebration of Worldwide Spin in Public Day, which takes place globally every third Saturday of September, this event offers the public the opportunity to learn about the ancient skill of spinning sheep’s wool into yarn.

Heritage Malta said that participants will observe a skilled spinner using an antique spinning wheel and will be invited to try basic spinning techniques on a drop spindle, taking the finished product home whilst gaining hands-on insight into skills passed down through generations.

There will also be a question and answer session which will be held in both Maltese and English.

Due to limited space, pre-booking is essential. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by one adult, whose admission is included in the child’s ticket.

Tickets may be pre-booked online or purchased from any Heritage Malta museum or site.
