New ferry service with extended hours until late eveningAn extension of ferry operating hours, which will now operate until late evening, has been announced by the Ministry for Sustainable Mobility.

The extension will apply to the two ferry services offered in the ports connecting Sliema and Bormla with Valletta, as well as to the fast ferry services connecting Valletta, Sliema and Bugibba in Malta with Mgarr in Gozo.

The Ministry said that this measure will make it possible for more passengers to use the ferry as part of their journey even at later times during the day, while continuing to increase the choice of this public transport as a viable, convenient and efficient alternative to the use of a private car.

The new schedule will remain in force until the 31st of October, when the summer schedule ends and the winter schedule comes into force. The new winter schedule will also include additional trips, so that the service can better accommodate passenger demand and continue to respond to the demand and needs of those who make use of this means of transport.

Minister for Sustainable Mobility Chris Bonett said that this measure is an important step in strengthening connectivity between our localities and islands, after the very well-received route between Sliema, Bugibba and Gozo was introduced earlier this year.

“Within three months since we introduced this route at the beginning of May, around 250,000 passengers have used it as part of their journey. This clearly shows the demand that exists for transport services that are reliable, efficient and that give people an alternative to the private car,” said Minister Bonett.

With this extension, three additional trips will be added to each port service and two additional trips to the Fast Ferry service, both the one departing from Valletta and the one departing from Sliema and Bugibba.
