The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) has published a book commemorating 30 years of history (1996–2026).
The book, written by William Grech in collaboration with Colin Galea, documents three decades of the Union’s history, achievements, challenges and unwavering commitment to representing nurses and midwives in Malta.
Through historical accounts, photographs and significant milestones, this publication highlights the Union’s evolution since its establishment in 1996, its contribution to improving the working conditions and professional recognition of nurses and midwives, and its role in shaping Malta’s healthcare sector.
The book was officially launched during the MUMN’s 30th anniversary celebrations in September, alongside the inauguration of the MUMN Healthcare Professionals Museum in Qormi.
The MUMN said that this publication is not merely a record of the Union’s history but also a tribute to the dedication, perseverance and collective efforts of the individuals who have contributed to its development over the past three decades. It serves as an important historical reference for present and future generations of healthcare professionals.
The book in book has been published in Maltese but work is ongoing for a translation to English.

I still remember vividly the Nurse “Stella” (I don’t know her surname”, being the Nurse that came visiting people at their homes way back in the 50’s & 60’s. She was very dedicated & knew how both to treat patients in their needs. May God Bless her wherever she may be now.
