The new Freephone 1578 service has been launched, aiming to make the Authority more accessible to the elderly and their families.

OPSA is a regulatory authority that aims to raise the quality and standards of services for the elderly, while safeguarding and promoting their dignity, safety, and well-being.

Through Freephone 1578, the elderly, their relatives, and members of the public will have a simpler and more direct way to contact the Authority, ask questions, express concerns, or lodge complaints regarding services provided in residential homes for the elderly.

The new service was launched by Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Deo Debattista, together with the Chief Executive of the Authority for Standards in Social Welfare Services (OPSA), George Fenech.

Parliamentary Secretary Deo Debattista stated that this initiative further enhances the accessibility of services for the elderly and their families.

“When older persons or their family members have concerns, it is important for them to know where to turn and to find someone who will listen. The Freephone number 1578 makes this contact easier and more direct. Above all, we continue to convey the message that the voices of our older persons matter and deserve to be heard,” said Dr Debattista.

OPSA CEO George Fenech stated that the launch of the Freephone service represents another step towards bringing the Authority closer to the people it serves. He explained that through this new channel, OPSA will be able to receive and address questions, concerns, and complaints more directly and efficiently.

Dr Debattista also thanked OPSA staff for their efforts to promote higher standards in services for older persons, emphasising that service quality goes beyond mere regulation and must always be grounded in respect, dignity, and the individual’s well-being.

The Freephone 1578 service will be available during office hours.
