The National Youth Council has said that it would like to put forward its stand on this special day whereby Malta is currently commemorating two important celebrations; the Worker’s Day and the day when Malta joined the European Union. This is because these two occasions are both related together, since the worker’s play a key role in our society through their every day involvement and hard work. This hard work was of utmost importance in making Malta more competitive and facilitating its entry within the European Union.

“On this important day for all workers, the KNZ would like to greet the role of many youth workers and their hard work aimed at improving the standard and the quality of work in each local sector. The youth’s contribution is very important as it stimulates fresh and innovative ideas which generate a new sense within our local industries and companies. On the other hand the KNZ would like to encourage local authorities and employers to take more into account the skills and abilities of youth workers and to create more relevant opportunities so that youth workers are encouraged to work harder and to develop within their careers.”

They said that the entry of Malta in the European Union gave rise to several opportunities to youth workers to go and work or to further their studies abroad. The membership of Malta within the European Union means that we have a major say in the EU leadership and direction, thus a chance to create more employment opportunities and career development opportunities for our youths.

KNZ concluded by saying that it believes that the worker should always be respected for the beneficial work and the local authorities should continue working to ensure that the employment conditions and workers’ rights are enhanced to offer the best for our workers. In this way, the membership of Malta within the European Union will benefit our workers from further educational opportunities, career opportunities and better employment conditions.
