As you may know, the tranquility of Hondoq ir-Rummien is being threatened by an application for a massive project, which includes a large hotel, villas, apartments, shops and a yacht marina.
Gozo cannot afford to turn Hondoq ir-Rummien in another commercialised area like Xlendi, Marsalforn and Imgarr, for it deprives people of places to relax in contact with nature away from the usual stress of their urban surroundings Such a project will also detract from Gozo’s unspoilt appeal and will therefore be detrimental to tourism in Gozo.
MEPA is asking the public to submit comments regarding the Environment Impact Statement (EIS) before the 12th May 2010. We took the liberty of writing a standard letter, which we are asking you to kindly submit to MEPA.
We call on everyone to help us ensure that Hondoq remains part of our natural heritage, as planned prior to the 2006 Gozo Local Plan – please let your voice be heard by clicking here and signing our online letter..
Our aim is for Hondoq to remain for everyone to enjoy.
Thank you for your support,
Moviment Harsien Hondoq – SOS Hondoq

This would truly would be a massive loss for us Gozitans to lose such a beach! I hope that our cry does not fall on deaf ears!!
Right now….. Malta and especially Gozo is suffering from high rates of unemployment, closing down of businesses, very little money in the hands and not to mention the high rates of bills which makes it impossible to attend to places of pleasure….. What must we do if Hondoq goes, which right now costs 0 cents to go to and enjoy quality time with my family? Maybe go back to war times and stay inside the house hoping that time passes???
What must we do Mr Prime Minister and MEPA??
Please leave Hondoq Beach the way GOD created it, we need this lovely BAY for our family to relax.
If the greedy speculators touch Hondoq and ruin a HABIT OF A LIFE TIME then it will be time for us ex-pats to move on to another country where peace and tranquility actually means what it says. What ever happened to the Calypso Island??? Where TIME STOOD STILL? if Hondoq turns into another yacht marina similar to the one in Ta’ Xbiex in Malta then I am afraid it will be the beginning of the end for lovely Gozo.
I do go to Hondoq during the summer months and it is always Jam Packed.
I heard that the would be developers are going to leave only 90 car Park spaces for cars. Where are the others going to go?
People should give their full support to MHH as this group is doing all they can to save this bay for all of us.
I was one that have signed the petition – Did You? http://www.soshondoq.blogspot.com/
I met my lovely husband at Hondoq during the long summer hot months and hot it was there, oh boy.
We camped there and my mum used to think that I was a saint.
Hondoq is a place that everyone enjoys it’s quiet surroundings. Memories, memories, Hondoq please stay the way I know you. Don’t give up to speculators
I’ve visited Gozo (from Australia) on three occasions and my favourite spot is Hondoq.
It’s so tranquil and quiet on those beautiful summer mornings. Please don’t spoil it and give in to people whose only ambition in life is to get rich.
We have visited Gozo for the past two years and are returning again in July. We (My family) love Hondoq as it is, jellyfish and all! A development would seriously make us reconsider future holidays to the Island. It would be a crying shame to destroy it for some plastic creation fit for those that the island does not want to encourage to visit.
The whole point of Gozo is that it is the most unspoilt island in the Med, keep it that way please.
Why does this destruction of our island have to go on?What will it leave us with? NOTHING TO DO AND NOWHERE TO GO! I hope that our so called politicians hear the voice of the people on this issue and let us and our children enjoy OUR HONDOQ as it is.
