On Sunday, the 30th of May, 2010, the Gozo Branch of the English-Speaking Union of Malta will be launched during an official ceremony to be held at the Exhibition Hall of the Ministry for Gozo, St Francis Square, Victoria.

The English-Speaking Union (ESU) is a worldwide charitable organisation which exists to promote the use of English at all levels.

The Gozo Branch is sponsored by the Gozo Business Chamber, with the active support of the Ministry for Gozo, the Gozo College, BOV and the Gozo Centre for Art and Crafts. Giovanna Debono, The Minister for Gozo, is the Patron.

About 50 members from 12 different countries, together with members from Malta and Gozo, will be attending the launching ceremony which is to be held under the patronage of Giovanna Debono, The Minister for Gozo.

The overseas guests will be led by Lord Watson of Richmond CBE, who is the Chairman Emeritus, ESU International Council and Professor Arne Zettersten, President of the ESU International Council and will also include the British High Commissioner, H.E. Louise Jane Stanton.

The programme will include the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by the Chairman of the Gozo Branch and the Chairman of the ESU of Malta to which The Minister for Gozo and Lord Watson will act as witnesses.

The winning essays submitted in a competition for school children from the Gozo College will be read by their authors followed by a dialogue on ECO Gozo.

The visitors will also have the opportunity of touring parts of Gozo after the ceremony.
