The Malta Union of Teachers has declared and industrial dispute with the government over Teachers, Kindergarten Assistants and Learning Support Assistants who fall under the category “Supply” and have been in employment for more than four years.
A year ago, on 26 May 2009 the Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the MUT which, among other things, it was agreed that from that date those employees who fall into that category are given an indefinite contract and could then start to progress up their relative pay scale until they reach the maximum scale.
The union said that despite the relative clause, still nothing had been done and the employees had not as yet even received an official document confirming their indefinite status or the first increment which was due on the 26th of May 2010.
They concluded by saying that this is more evidence of bureaucracy, and lack of respect and appreciation that the authorities are demonstrating against these workers.
