It used to be the most conventional of behaviours to bow and remove one’s hat before a king. Yet, the Leone Band is saying ‘You can leave your hat on,’ as it presents its 3rd edition of Leone Goes Pop with the king of rock and the king of pop.
This open-air concert dedicated to contemporary music shall be presented in Victoria’s main square, Independence Square (it-Tokk), on Sunday, the 6th of June 2010, the eve of a public holiday, starting at 9pm.
The Leone Band of Victoria, under the direction of Colin Attard, launched the experimental pop concert in 2008. So far it has performed repertoire from some of the world’s greatest-ever pop bands and artistes. This year’s line up includes nothing less than The Beatles, The Village People, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Eric Clapton, The Righteous Brothers, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Joe Cocker, whose popular soundtrack ‘you can leave your hat on’ is setting the theme for the night.
The band said that it is investing lots of energy and investment in the production, promising what should be one of the biggest open-air musical events, both in terms of audience and in terms of production. It should be the ideal night-out for the many Maltese spending a long- weekend on the sister island. As it is now customary of the Leone Band, it is much more than a seated concert. It is one whole journey through the very best of the pop and rock classics in which the audience is invited to listen, to watch, to feel and to participate. Indeed, the audience shall, this year, be invited to participate like never before; something which the Leone Band is hopeful to attain with the help of conductor Colin Attard, TV personality Jean Claude Micallef, guest singers Nadine Axisa and Mario Caruana, and of course, all the world-renowned artistes that live in the music to be performed.
Entrance and seating in Independence Square (it-Tokk) is free of charge and available on a first-come-first-served basis. The public is kindly requested to be seated 10 minutes prior to the commencement of the event. Further information can be acquired from www.leone.org.mt or info@leone.org.mt.
The 3rd edition of Leone Goes Pop is being held as part of the celebrations of Jum il-Belt Victoria, in collaboration with the Victoria Local Council.
