On Wednesday, the 2nd of June 2010 a commemorative ceremony was held at the Xaghra Primary School during which the Xaghra Mayor, Joseph Cordina, distributed a number of prizes to those children who were placed first and second in each class in a competition of the best colouring book about the places of interest in their locality.

This initiative was taken by the Xaghra Local Council as part of the celebrations held last April to commemorate the 322nd Anniversary of the Xaghra Parish foundation and the Locality Day.

The primary school children had the opportunity to colour the designs found in their book and read information about each historical site including the four churches in the locality and other places of interest which attract thousands of tourists to Gozo each year.

In a small message for this occasion, the Xaghra Mayor encouraged children to be proud of theirlocality and take care of it since it is the place which gave them their identity. He also made reference to the activity ‘TASTE OF SUMMER,’ organised by the Xaghra Local Council and being held on Saturday, the 12th of June.

Present for the prize giving were also the school’s headmaster Mr Joseph Rapa, Assistant Head, Mrs Mary Anne Zammit, as well as teachers and parents.
