Gozo’s Teatru tal-Opra Aurora has announced that the €10 reduction offer on opera tickets for Carmen to be staged this October 16th, running throughout the month of May 2010, has now been terminated.

Bookings for the opera Carmen opened last October, one year ahead, prompting scores of opera lovers to secure their preferred seats. In fact, this early announcement and opening of reservations proved popular with those many patrons who at the very last week were disappointed to find a completely sold out Aïda, last year at the same Aurora theatre.

During May 2010, tickets were being sold at €70, €60 and €45, all of which with a further €10 discount. Hence, all tickets now return to their original prices. The theatre regrets disappointing any patrons who did not manage to purchase their seats during the ticket offer period.

This is the second time round that the Teatru tal-Opra Aurora has launched this offer, making opera more accessible, while keeping an eye on the financial side of the production. The theatre notes that this year, this scheme was even more popular, with many people coming up to book and pay their tickets until the last days of May in order to benefit from this offer.

Booked and sold tickets for the opera Carmen now run into three digit numbers. Production is well underway as Italian artistic director Novella Tabili flies over from Italy this weekend to hold production meetings with all departments and sections concerned. Indeed, this will be quite an eventful weekend for the theatre personnel. In the coming days, conductor and chorus leader Colin Attard will convene the volunteers and all those interested in forming part of the Aurora Opera Chorus while separate auditions will be held for children wishing to participate in the singing roles of the opera.
