On Saturday the Marsa C.C team took on Melita C.C. The Melita team batted first. Richard Hawker and Mike Caruana opened the batting. Hawker was first to go being lbw for seven runs. Caruana was next to go being caught for seventeen runs. Darren Grech played the finest innings he has played and most probably was the difference in the result of the game.Grech hit three fours on the way to thirty nine runs before being caught. He had faced twenty nine balls. Andy Naudi played a sterling innings of forty nine runs from twenty nine balls faced including five fours and a six. Tim Wheeler made six runs from five balls before being bowled. Derek Ali (twenty six runs not out) and Bikram Arora (six runs not out) made sure that their team faced the full overs. For Marsa Nowell Khosla was the main wicket taker with two while, Sarfraz Ali, Glen Tavilla and Ronnie Sacco all took a wicket each. The Melita team totalled 161 runs.

Marsa’s reply started off badly losing Dave Borg in the first over of the innings. This brought together Nowell Khosla and Glen Tavilla. They tore away the Melita bowling and both retired on the thirty ball faced rule, Khosla made forty seven runs including four fours and a six. He was unable to bat again and therefore he was out. Tavilla made fifty six runs including four fours and three sixes, he was later to return. Ronnie Sacco was steady as ever and made twenty six runs not out from twenty one balls. Five wickets fell, with Bikram Arora taking three wickets in one over, for no more than fifteen runs. This brought Tavilla back to the crease needing twenty runs from three overs. Sacco was facing the bowling and hit a four of the first delivery, Marsa were looking to have the game sewn up. The next ball Sacco played the ball towards short mid wicket. Tavilla took off for a run and amidst calls of yes and no. Tony Slater who was fielding there picked up the ball and calmly threw the ball to the bowler who ran out Tavilla. Melita made an unexpected win. From the result Melita gained ten points while Marsa gained two points, which has both teams now on ten points with Marsa having played a game more.

On Sunday the division two game between Mellieha C.C and RMG CC took place with the Mellieha team running riot and winning the game by one hundred and one runs. Mellieha earned eleven points for the win while RMG CC earned none.

Today Marsa C.C play the Navy ship HMS St.Albans in a twenty over game.. On Thursday and on the weekend the Marsa team will take on returning team Leyland C.C.
