The occasion of the 400th anniversary of the death of Michelangelo Merisi Da Caravaggio will be commemorated by the Philatelic Bureau of MaltaPost with a Commemorative Folder. This will be the third in its series following the Annus Paulinus and Papal visit Commemorative Folders.

This Commemorative Folder will include the miniature sheet that was first issued on 20th July 2007 to commemorate the arrival in Malta of the great artist. The miniature sheet has now been overprinted with a unique number and with the caption: 4TH CENTENARY OF THE DEATH OF CARAVAGGIO 1610 – 2010.

The miniature sheet with one stamp having denomination of €4.66 depicts the full painting of The Beheading of St.John. The miniature sheet measures 120mm x 80mm, while the stamp measures 44.0mm x 31.0mm with a perforation of 13.9 x 14.0 (comb). The stamp has been offset printed on Maltese Crosses watermarked paper by Printex Limited and will be available as miniature sheet. Mint miniature sheets will be available from MaltaPost Branches.

Complementing this Folder, MaltaPost’s philatelic Bureau will be issuing a Commemorative Cover bearing the image of the portrait of Caravaggio.

The Caravaggio philatelic products will be available for sale on Friday, the 30th of July from MaltaPost branches in Malta and Gozo and from the Mobile Van.
