Parliamentary Secretary, Chris Said, has said that works on 448 roads in 47 localities around Malta and Gozo are to be carried out in the next 12 months at a cost of €13.5 million.

The works will involve the government, local councils and the private sector, and will be carried out under three different schemes designed by the Parliamentary Secretariat responsible for Local Councils.

The Parliamentary Secretary said that 202 roads in 26 localities will be constructed under the Scheme of Partnership between Government, Local Government and Private (Public-Private Partnership). The works under this scheme will cost around €7 million and the government will be covering a substantial part of the remaining amount.

There will also be 185 roads in 33 localities which will be constructed by the local councils themselves. These works will be paid for by a direct government allocation to the local councils. Parliamentary Secretary, Chris Said, said that this year the Government intended to allocate a specific sum of money to each local council to be spent only on the maintenance of roads. This sum, amounting to €5.2 million, is equivalent to 17 per cent of the direct financial allocation received by Local Councils in 2010.

It seems that all the street, roads, square and allies are according to EU standard as NONE of them are shown in the above list!!!

Sincerely I was eagerly waiting to see, AT LEAST Sannat Road, from Victoria to Sannat, listed. This main road is really in need of a facelift, and not patching every summer.

Are there any problems which do not present solutions? Or because Sannat is known as………………………….

The villagers of Sannat are not exempted from paying road taxes, and any type of other taxes, and they should be treated as all other citizens.
Is there any explanation why Sannat was left out of this Roads Works Project?

      hi John,

Your message is very very TRUE.. It is a shame that roads such as Sannat road which the central government is responsible for it does not react or at least tries to do something (doing the patching is not a solution). Instead of taking action, the government takes everything for granted which means that Sannat does not exist. The village of Sannat is known as one of the beautiful village in Gozo and this is due to many historical places that everyone could admire. Sannat is also known by many tourists who come to Sannat for their holiday to stay in many luxury farmhouses. Although their is no adverts about the bay of Mgarr ix-Xini (which is part of Sannat), this bay is frequented by many tourists which means that Sannat is of a high importance in Gozo. At Sannat there is also a 5 star hotel. As everyone knows WE DEPEND ONLY FROM TOURISM, so we need need to take care of places/ villages who welcomes tourists in our island such as SANNAT.

I agree perfectly with you John regarding the need of new resurfacing roads at Sannat which the central government is responsible for them.

I clarify introduction of my comments dated 4th. August; Ta’ Sannat is the locality referring to the streets etc…

Philip, I appreciated very much your comments. May some day the people of Ta’ Sannat, be more aware and proud of our “Beautiful Village”, enriched by historical and natural beauty sites, some of which are unique.

Back to my complaint that Ta’ Sannat has been totally left out from the Road Works Project; he who has the village pride at heart should have the courage to endorse this complaint about the poor state of our main road leading to Victoria. Those who by their nature of their commitments are bound to air their views till now have been all silent. Why?
