The Ministry for Gozo has announced that an agreement has been signed with the Curia, whereby the Curia will offer one of it’s properties in Gozo to act as a temporary shelter to persons who are in a situation of crisis, this will include the most vulnerable people, such as those under eighteen years old. Once there, individuals can be assessed to assertain their long term needs.

Giovanna Debono, the Minister for Gozo and Mons. Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo, were present for the signing of the agreement and both expressed their satisfaction about the collaboration between the Ministry for Gozo and the Gozo Church, in the setting up of the Crisis Intervention Centre which will offer much needed social support for the Gozitan community.

The Gozo Minister said that this centre had been long awaited in Gozo. She said that the centre will be a welcome addition to the other services offered by the Ministry for Gozo for people who are in a difficult social situation, such as the Sta Marta Day Centre for persons with disability, as well as the care for the elderly in the community and social workers.

The Bishop explained that through this project the Church in Gozo wishes to express its solidarity with those people and families who are going through difficult times. Mons.Grech stressed that any initiative to protect people and the family will always find a great deal of support.

This new centre will be managed by social workers and professionals who will be taking care of the basic necessities, such as food and a clean environment. There will be bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen and internet access.
