Heritage Malta has said that in September it will start the on-site implementation of the €1.97 million conservation project for the Tarxien Temples, part of the €9.2 million Archaeological Heritage Conservation Project, which is part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund for 2007-2013.

They said that the first work to be carried out will be the removal of the existing walkway so that a complete 3D survey of the megalithic temples can be carried out. The removal of the current walkway will be carried out throughout September, while the 3D survey will take place in October.

For this reason parts of the temple may be temporarily closed to visitors during September. Heritage Malta said it is committed to keep disruptions to visitor access to the absolute minimum necessary to guarantee visitor safety.

The admission fee to the temples during such instances will be at a reduced price.
