Chorus Urbanus was invited to animate the solemn Mass led by Bishop Mario Grech in memory of the late President Emeritus Guido DeMarco. The Mass organised by the Gozitan friends of Dr DeMarco was held recently at the Gozo Cathedral.
The DeMarco family, including the widow of Dr DeMarco, Mario DeMarco and his two other sisters Dr Giannella and Fiorella, attended for the Mass with their families and relatives. Dr DeMarco’s three children read the lessons and the psalmus, Bishop Cauchi delivered the sermon.
Chorus Urbanus performed Abbe Boyer’s Messe Solennelle with the participation of soloists Yvonne Galea, Noel Galea, Mario Portelli and Hilda Grima. The choir also sang John Galea’s O Salutaris Hostia, Edward Elgar’s Ave Verum and Arcadelt’s Ave Maria. Most of the pieces were sung a cappella. The choir was under the musical direction of Dr John Galea.
After the Mass the DeMarco family met Dr Galea and the choir members and thanked them for their excellent singing. Dr Galea said that Dr Guido DeMarco had been a long time admirer of the Choir and always offered his support especially during his tenure as the President of Malta. Dr Galea went on to say that the Choir’s participation in the mass was the least it could do to show its gratitude for his support and help.
