As the winter season draws closer, the Government has said that it is encouraging people who are eligible, to get the free seasonal flu vaccine. There will be 85,000 vaccines available to those who fall within the catagory of elegibility
The Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly and Community Care, Mario Galea said that although the flu affects the entire population, the most vulnerable are the elderly and those suffering from certain medical conditions.
The flu can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia and it is estimated that between 20,000 and 40,000 people die with the flu within the European Union.
The flu vaccine will be distributed free of charge from the Health Centres from Monday, 25 October 2010 at these times:
· Monday to Friday from 10.30am to 1.00pm.
· Saturday from 10:00 to noon.
54 Malta and Gozo Local Councils will also administer the vaccine to residents within their neighborhood. Those persons who have not written to the Local Council, can be vaccinated at Health Centres.
