Provisional data show that in September the index of industrial production grew marginally by 0.3 per cent over the corresponding month of 2009.

Industrial production rose by 0.3 per cent from 99.6 points in September 2009. This was attributed to an increase in the production of intermediate goods of 13.5 per cent. The other main industrial groupings registered declines, ranging from 3.8 per cent in energy production to 36.3 per cent in the production of durable consumer goods.

At the NACE division level, the production of computer, electronic and optical products (NACE 26), manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (NACE 21), and manufacture of wearing apparel (NACE 14) grew by 18.7, 39.1 and 13.6 per cent respectively. This increase was mitigated by declines in the production of food products (NACE 10), manufacture of beverages (NACE 11), and the production of electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (NACE 35), of 2.3, 3.7 and 4.1 per cent respectively over the corresponding month of 2009.
